Description
From the National Maritime Museum - The scabbard is made from pierced gilt mounted on black leather. The gilt is pierced in two places to show the leather below. The scabbard has two rings for the attachment of belt slings. The obverse of the top locket is decorated with a shield consisting of crossed axes, lances, etc. The reverse of the top locket is engraved with the words 'J Salter 35, Strand Sword Cutler and Jeweller'. There is a centre oval panel on the obverse and reverse of the scabbard, which contains a depiction in relief of a foul anchor and cable motif.
