Cover of Scorpion and Felix, by Karl Marx
Subject
Philosophy, Laurence Sterne, A Sentimental Journey
Description
Scorpion and Felix was the only comedic novel ever officially written by Karl Marx, and even then, it was never officially published. Marx loved Laurence Sterne's work, and thus this piece was heavily influenced by Sterne's The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Scorpion and Felix was also Marx's first forray into politics and provides insight into many of his philisophical views, particularly regarding one's origins. This is just one example of the many pieces of literature that Sterne influenced, highlighting the far-reaching effects of both The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman and A Sentimental Journey.
