Title
Eve is reproached for eating the forbidden fruit
Subject
Adam and Eve
Description
In the Bible, God reprimands Eve for eating the forbidden fruit. In the etching, Adam strikes and ambiguous pose which suggests either that is he who is speaking or he is helpless and shocked. Under the etching reads Latin lettering: "Deus omnium videt culpas, et omnium delicta cognoscit, super omnium animam, super omnium occulta oculos habet. S. Ambros. de paradiso c. 14. Der Herr sprach: Hast du nicht gessen von dem Baume, davon ich dir gebot, du solltest nicht davon essen. Gen. 3.11. Joh. El. Ridinger inv. fec. et excud. Aug. Vind."
