Title

An Essay Towards a New Theory of Vision

Subject

View of the Mind during the 1700's

Description

George Berkeley was an Irish philosopher who put forth the notion that physical objects, such as a spoon and fork, were not material in nature, but instead were figments of our imagination. Furthermore, he believed that these objects could only exist if we perceive them. In his first major work, An Essay towards a New Theory of Vision, Berkeley discussed the limitations of human vision and postulated this theory. Berkeley is one of many examples of philosophers who continued examining the human mind throughout the 1700's.
